Notes: Trade canoes are a common motif in Jaune Quick-to-See Smith’s work. In this work titled Trade Canoe: A Western Fantasy, Smith depicts a large canoe overflowing with symbolic figures on an imaginative journey. A strong example of Smith’s bold and provocative style, there are many characters to pay attention to - both iconic and satirical. This edition was printed by Landfall Press in Santa Fe, New Mexico and published by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
