Dominican, 1965—
Born in the Dominican Republic, Vicky Steckel is a multi-disciplinary, self taught artist. She started her career as a makeup artist, learning and collaborating with top icons in the fashion industry worldwide. Initiated by an inner drive to create, she segued into photography, staging hand-painted backdrops, props and furniture. More importantly, Steckel's models were also fully painted in a transitioning color palette, highlighting the beauty and mystery of the body as a living, organic medium. These photography sessions, themselves, have been documented and transformed into performance art, and they serve as a study for Steckel's innovative style. Steckel continues to experiment with surfaces, and techniques, producing paintings, photographs, collages, textiles, drawings, installation pieces, and custom collaborations with cutting-edge brands.
