Cherokee/Creek/Osage, 1980—

Yatika Starr Fields is a contemporary artist of Osage, Cherokee, and Creek descent, known for his vibrant and dynamic abstract paintings that explore themes of identity, culture, and the natural world. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Fields grew up in a creative environment, deeply influenced by his family’s artistic background. His mother, Anita Fields, is a well-known ceramic artist, and his father, Tom Fields, is a photographer. This rich cultural and artistic upbringing informs Yatika’s perspective and approach to art.

Fields attended the Art Institute of Boston, where he refined his skills and began to develop his unique visual language. His work is characterized by a blend of graffiti, street art, and traditional Native American motifs, resulting in a style that is both contemporary and deeply rooted in heritage. The energetic compositions and vivid color palettes in his work reflect the movement and rhythms of the natural world, the energetic engagement in cultural ceremony, as well as the complexities of modern life.

Yatika Starr Fields’s artworks are featured in the collections of many museums across the country, including, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Peabody Essex Museum, the Heard Museum, Oklahoma State Museum of Art, Hood Museum at Dartmouth College and the Gilcrease Museum, among other Institutions.
